Google Adwords has been around for a few years now. A lot of people complain about the high cost per click for their keywords, that it’s hard to use properly, etc… Adwords as well as other pay per click companies should be integrated into a lot of companies marketing arsenal. Like any other marketing technique (especially one’s that cost money) you should experiment and see what works for your individual business. Adwords or any pay per click search engine/company should be used in conjunction with other marketing efforts and backlinking strategies for maximum effectiveness.
A few quick tips:
Use google’s keyword tool to get an idea of how much clicks can cost you as well as to find new keywords that you can target.
Don’t be afraid to use a lot of keywords related to your business or your product.
Keep your bids reasonable and don’t bid on generic keywords. Be specific in your keywords. Calculate how much each lead/sale is worth to you and from their decide how much you can/want to bid.
Check often your clickthrough rate, bounce rate, sales, leads, etc… Basically check anything that can tell you how well your ads are converting often so that you can make quick decisions on campaign changes.
Remember Adwords isn’t the only choice out there you might also find success and a lower cost per click with 2nd and 3rd tier search engines. Adwords can be restrictive on keywords you can bid on and also outright ban some products so there are always more choices out there.
Pay Per Click Search Engines:
