What can I say?  I’m a fan of Craigslist.

I’ve sold countless things I no longer need from cell phones to cars on Craigslist.  I’ve found employees, I’ve found jobs for people, I’ve found jobs for myself.  Craigslist is a free and powerful tool you can use to expand your business.

Here are a couple of examples that I’ve personally used to expand my business on Craigslist:

A few years ago I decided I would start to barter my services.  I figured someone would get a good website or services done to their website and I would get something I wanted.  Easy enough.  I posted in the Barter section.  Within a few days I was getting some barter offers.  Do you want a swimming pool, handyman work, dental work, DJ services, etc…?  There was even a guy that wanted me to mentor him in exchange for odd jobs.  At that point in time I didn’t really need any of those things.  I declined all of the offers.  Thinking back I just turned down business, I probably could have sold their services to people that needed the work done.  Oh well live and learn.  I did get paying customers from this.  Even though some people weren’t interested in handing over cash, there were some that would.

Other times I would post ads under Gigs about Websites, SEO and things of that nature and I would get calls or emails.  Bang new clients.

At other times I would look under the Jobs section and I’d find companies looking for “web guys” and respond to their ads.  A lot of companies actually save money by giving us a one off fee or even paying a monthly fee compared to having full time employees.

Of course I’ve also sold a ton of things on there.  I’ve sold old computers, computer parts, cars, cell phones, electronics as well as other stuff.  So this not only works for service companies, but for companies that have physical products.  There is even a Wanted section where people tell you what you want.

If you’re a scrap metal company for example there is a Free section where people give away scrap metal, electronics and other things.  Do a quick search you might find something for Free that can benefit your business.

This is just another example of a site that can help your business no matter what type of business you have.  Best of all it’s free to post ads.
